FLIR

Thermal infrared imaging is different from other forms of low light imaging.  Other technologies (night vision intensifiers, low light CCD, IR LED light systems, EMCCD, Super HAD, etc.) all require at least some ambient light to be present in the scene.  Thermal cameras work because all objects emit there own infrared energy (commonly referred to as temperature).  Thermal imaging focuses this infrared energy onto a focal plane array that is sensitive to the IR spectrum.  The camera then produces an electronic image of the scene that we can view with our eyes.  But wait.  There’s more.  Because thermal imaging operates in a completely different wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum you can see things that would not be apparent to the naked eye.   For instance you can see if a vehicle has recently been driven by the thermal signature of the car hood and tires.  You can also see if heat or cold is escaping a structure.  Finally, infrared wavelengths behave differently than visible wavelengths and as such they are able to penetrate things like smoke and haze better than visible light.  Most modern detectors fall into two categories; cooled and uncooled.  Cooled detector infrared cameras produce stunning noise free images but they require a cryogenic cooling systems (stirling cycle, Peltier, etc.) to cool the sensor to a chilly <200K.  These systems have longer startup times and require more maintenance than the most modern uncooled systems.  Uncooled detectors are stabilized to room temperature and are virtually maintenance free.  They are quickly becoming the state of the art in thermal infrared imaging camera technology.

All objects, both natural and manmade, emit infrared energy as heat. By detecting very subtle temperature differences of everything in view, infrared (or thermal imaging) technology reveals what otherwise would be invisible to the naked eye. Even in complete darkness and challenging weather conditions, thermal imaging gives users the ability to see the unseen.

First developed for military purposes, thermal imaging has since been adopted by law enforcement, fire and rescue teams and security professionals. This technology can be used to detect approaching people or vehicles, to track the footsteps of a fugitive or to learn why a fire resists extinguishment.

How is Thermal Infrared Energy Measured?

Seeing the Heat

The rods and cones at the back of our eyes are designed to see visible light. When we hold up our hand to a flame, we are sensing the infrared light. But how can we "see" this light? It is possible to design detectors that sense infrared energy and convert it to electrical energy. These are similar to solar photovoltaic cells that convert visible light to electricity. Once infrared light is converted to electricity, we can easily measure the variations in electrical voltage that represent the different wavelengths. In this way, we can measure the colors that our eyes can't see.

What is FLIR?

These devices are available as goggles, binoculars, weapon sights, long range scopes and sights. Remote sensing and encrypted wireless connections are available for tactical situations. Commonly used by Armed forced, these systems are essential for Painting The Night and conquering the darkness for war fighters and commanders alike.

To buy the device you need to know everything about the RAZIR.. The range is 8-14μm LWIR Long Wave Infrared. with an amazing field of view 25°×19° - Point and shoot imaging and Thermal camera Sensitivity of 1/10 degree sensitivity. Uncooled FPA micro bolometer, with image correction and full auto imaging and instant image enhancement acts like the Detector Type. The visual built in digital video with 640x480 pixels, auto balance, auto gamma, and digital zoom has CMOS sensor. It has got LCD display to show the status of battery, indication of power and sound alarm just so that the alarm can go off the moment the battery is down and for the temperature rise/fall. It weighs 0.265Kg including the battery. This is a full blown infrared thermography system

It has multi GB internal digital image storage, with the USB to download from and to PC. The Digital Camera and Infrared Camera automatically take two images in one step which are automatically stored into the built in storage system. There is also an image annotation in the field for which it records your voice. It also has a radiometric calibrated temperature measurement which is assigns temperature values to each and every pixel. It also has a built in laser target pointer.

Coupled with Fusion IR, EZ report, full RAZIR analysis and training software along with the most comprehensive thermal infrared imaging kit available, the system is sure to suit your thermal imaging needs.

Grant Information

Many academic and technical schools provide training for weatherization programs, energy audit programs, electrical maintenance, electrician, HVAC and more. Many of these schools are eligible for grant assistance from the local, state and federal level. Retraining programs like workers comp and VA Medical rehab are also good sources of possible grant assistance for companies and individuals.

Carl D Perkins Act

If your state uses this grant it seems that there is good cause and precedence to apply for thermal imaging equipment and thermography infrared cameras. This act provides for almost 1.4 Billion dollars annualy toward education. Types of Activities Supported: State and local funds generally are to be used for the following types of activities:

Serving as a catalyst for change by driving program improvement
Developing a strong accountability system that ensures quality and results
Strengthening the integration of academic, career and technical education
Ensuring access to career and technical education for special populations, including students with disabilities
Developing and improving curricula
Purchasing equipment to ensure that the classrooms have the latest technology
Providing career guidance and academic counseling services
Providing professional development and technical assistance for teachers, counselors and administrators
Supporting career and technical education student organizations
